WP Coupon Generator Review

by Michaela

This is a product review on WP Coupon Generator, another product in our review series.

What our reviewer said:

The WP Coupon Generator is a good idea, although not necessarily an original one. I know that there are other coupon options available, but since I haven’t tried any of those, I can’t compare them. I can only tell you what I liked and didn’t like about this one.

First thing, let me say that I appreciate the fact that there is a pdf guide. I know that a lot of people are jumping on the video band wagon, but I absolutely hate to have to stop and watch a video while in the middle of a project.

The guide is short, but covers what needs to be covered, with the exception of the Translation section. That was added in the revised version, and doesn’t explain things as clearly as the rest of the pdf. A little more explanation of each of the actions would be helpful.

The feature options are pretty good, in my opinion. The sales page lists the features and I’ve listed most of them below in the Pros/Cons section so I won’t detail each one. I’ll just touch on a couple.

Customization:

I like that you can customize the look and feel of the coupon by changing color, font, size, borders, etc. I wasn’t wild about the color choices. The bright, bold, primary colors aren’t my cup of tea, but I can use the white or grey ones, so that’s ok. I would like to see maybe the option to use the color picker for background color.

Options:

The plugin offers the option to lock the coupon after it’s clicked by the customer. I would suggest that if you use that option, you clearly state that on your site. Otherwise, if someone clicks on a printable coupon, but then decides not to print until later, they won’t be able to come back to it.

Support:

During the time that I was reviewing this plugin, I was also following the WSO thread on it. The product owners were answering every question, and even implemented an update to address reported problems and suggested improvements during that few days.

Overall Impressions:

Overall, I think this is a very solid plugin. I don’t have any major issues with it, and I feel that it will be a very useful tool. It is also easy to use, and has mostly good documentation. I would definitely promote this at the WSO price.

The public price is $97 which seems a little steep to me, but I guess that would depend a lot on how the options stack up against the competition.

Pros:

PDF Manual
Mobile Optimized
Can add coupons to either sidebar and/or pages/posts
Lots of customization options including custom logo or QR code
Printable OR goes to a website url
Limit, lock, or expire coupons (includes countdown timer option)
Translate to other languages
Good Customer Service

Cons:

Limited color options
High public price
