It’s no secret that I’ve become known for coming out with great products on a regular basis. These aren’t just products that I decide to create on a whim. These are products that I know with 100% certainty that my target audience needs and wants. Everyone seems to want to know– how do I come up with product ideas?
Make It A Habit
There’s really no mystery to it and I don’t have a little machine that feeds me ideas all the time. A lot of it has to do with opening your mind up to what your customers are already telling you. If you’re already active in your niche area or topic, then the ideas are all around– you just have to grab onto them. Make it a habit to generate new ideas on a regular basis. Write down new ideas that come to you. If you make this a habit, you’ll soon become one of those people who just “naturally” gets great ideas. I can assure you that no one would have considered me to be the most creative in the class or anything like that. But now, that’s one of the things I’m most known for– go figure.
Go Where The Conversation Is
There are also things you can do whenever you need new ideas. One of the best things you can do for yourself is be present in your niche daily. Go where the conversation is. What are people talking about? What’s in the news? You can probably find a lot of great topic ideas just by paying attention to what’s going on. We all know that trends and hotness sell. Strike while the iron is hot, and all that.
Your customers and readers are probably giving you a lot of ideas as well– you just have to tune into that. Are there questions you’re asked over and over again? Are there certain topics they seem to want to discuss time and time again? That’s exactly the kind of thing you need to pay attention to. If many people in your niche or readership are focused in on a particular area, then you can bet you can find a lot of great product ideas there.
Test And Practice
Consider that you’re a leader in your niche. That’s why people look up to you and that’s why you want to create your own products in the first place. Your readers and customers love when you put your own results into your products. They don’t want to just hear theory and ideas. They want hardcore results that they can duplicate. There are probably things you’re doing in your business or whatever it is you’re an expert on that seem old hat to you– you don’t even notice them. But, these same things seem downright genius to others. It’s time for you to start sharing your results. Share the things you do that no one else does… the things that get you results. These are always great foundations to products.
When I wrote my first book, 5 Bucks a Day, what I did seemed like no big deal to me, and the first thing I did with the idea was to post a very short teaser about my case study in a forum, and then as a blog comment on a well-trafficked blog. In both cases, it amazed me that others thought my idea was great, and I was encouraged to go more in depth.
So I did, and it sold great, led to bigger things, still sells to this day 8 years later, and really truly changed my life.
The point is not to point to myself as brilliant but to the fact that you too might have tips and tricks that others will think are brilliant.
Do Your Own Thing In A Bigger And Better Way
Of course, the best and most profitable businesses always have their ear to the ground. They know what’s going on everywhere and nothing gets by them. You need to be the same. Your competitors can’t be one step ahead of you at all times. They can’t be releasing products left and right on all these really interesting topics while you aren’t coming out with a darn thing. They are quickly eclipsing you. They’re stealing your thunder. Stay on top of what the competition is doing. Stay on their list, read their blogs, and buy their products. You never, ever want to copy and you don’t even really want to follow their lead. You want to do your own thing in a bigger and better way while knowing exactly what they’re doing at the same time.
Practice Your Creativity
I’m a huge proponent of creativity. In fact, I’ve written a book on that exact topic because it’s so important for everyone. It’s something you need to practice, though. There are certain people we just think of as being more creative than others. It’s easy to exclude ourselves from that “creative” category altogether. You can’t and shouldn’t do that. You are creative– you were born creative. You just have to learn how to tap into that again. Start to practice your idea generation and brainstorming. One of the best ways to do that is to give yourself time off to regenerate– a prescription we can all benefit from.
Bring Your Best Ideas To Life
There’s a big difference between myself as a creative person and many people in the Internet marketing space. It’s certainly not that I’m more talented or anything like that. It’s that I bring my ideas to life. There are plenty of people who come up with great ideas. Maybe that’s not even your problem. But, how many people put those ideas into action? Do you?
You have to bring your ideas to life. You have to come up with the ideas and then turn them into actual products. You need to let people benefit from the great products you’re going to come out with– you owe it to your audience. They need and want what you’re going to share with them.
You can’t let the fear seep in. No, not all of your products will be winners. But, many of them will. Many of them will be life changing for you and for your customers.
Start keeping a list of ideas today. I recommend you get yourself a nice journal and pen that you carry with you. There’s something about writing with a real pen and real paper that helps get those ideas flowing. It’s time for you to generate amazing, life changing ideas and bring them to life. That’s what I’ve committed myself to and I know you’re going to make it happen as well.
